This Canadian made abrasive paste, this works exactly like many others on the market, was created by Woodslee Summercraft Studios and is now available through Kilian Tools. This product like many others on the market requires the exact same steps that most of us are familiar with. Please be sure to wear proper PPE eye protection is a must, you don’t want abrasive in your eye.
Use procedure:
- Turn your piece
- Sand to 240/320 grit making sure there is no tear out or scratch Marks from lower grits of papers
- Clean with compressed air, tack rag or alcohol
- Seal appropriately using sanding sealer, spending a little extra time to seal the end grain, allow time to dry between coats and before next step
- De-nib with a scouring pad or last grit used of sandpaper.
- With lathe stationary apply enough Superior Grit - Original to cover the entire piece with a thin layer
- Starting on slow speed, work Superior Grit - Original into the surface with a paper towel, gradually increasing the speed as it works its magic
- Once you see, feel and hear that it has done its job, remove any residue
- You have now achieved a finish equivalent to 1000 grit without the harmful dust in the air and no harmful chemicals or odor’s
- After Superior Grit – Original, you can obtain an even finer surface with Superior Grit - Microfine abrasive paste.
- Repeat the process above using Superior Grit - Microfine to create an even finer surface finish. Ideally suited to Epoxy and Acrylic composite materials and hard fine-grained woods, to a micromesh pad equivalent, without harmful dust in the air
- Apply your wax or oil finish of choice
Note: This product is used to achieve a high grit equivalent surface on tight grain wood like ebony or rosewood and resin, it’s possible that if there are any inclusions or open areas, e.g. bark, some grit may get lodged in there, simply use a toothbrush to remove.
